Spiritwish PvP Meta Report 12/30/2019

December 30, 2019

Today we’ll be going through the top used characters in PvP and see where the meta is at right now. Please note that things can change very rapidly. What is written here could be easily outdated in the span of two weeks. I’m going to be making this a series that I will update around every two weeks to account for so.

Keep in mind that currently not many people have 3 characters with full legendary++ armors. I would say that in about two weeks to a month is when the real game will start. When full 3 man teams with legendary++ armors are commonplace is when we will be able to accurately construct teams and counters.

This report encompasses the weeks of Dec. 15 – 29

Top Character Picks

Okay so – please bear with me here. I know this doesn’t look very pretty but the main information is there. The most important bits being the first 6 or so rows. This data is gathered from the PvP page and I’ve chosen to only include players from Master I to Diamond III.

Quick Analysis

The information between the two weeks tell a story – one that would be even more clear if we had a longer sample size. What this tells me is that the players are adapting very quickly. We see the slow fall of Lightning Mage as king thanks to Rune Rod. We also see the rise of Monk as a means to support, heal and make teams tankier. In all of this, Dual Wielder is being used as a consistent damage dealer and same with Paladin and Mercenary.

Hero picks worth noting…

Breakdown

Lightning Mage has been king of the hill for quite some time. With his range and big burst skills he is able to win matches before you even load in to spectate. This combined with having good CC and a team buff make him the best possible pick. We are seeing his usage numbers dwindle a little bit as fully built Rune Rods are entering the picture. Still without a doubt, he seems to be the focal point everybody is looking at when building their team. This being both building teams around him or to counter him.

Dual Wielder is an amazing pick for DPS and one that doesn’t seem to have a clear hard counter in PvP. The only downside to her is that you have to put in twice the investment for her weapons. Not only do you have to run Otso 20 times for her, you have to +50 both the weapons. She has hard hitting burst skills and with her fast attack speed has great damage over time when skills are on cooldown.

We see the drastic rise of Rune Rod to counter mages in PvP, most notably Lightning Mage. With her deflect she can make teams centered around Lightning Mage almost useless. Not only that she can generate a % based shield as well as heal over time. This combined with an AoE defense down skill makes her an insane support pick in PvP. She offers so much utility that it’s no wonder her usage numbers are increasing so much.

We are also seeing the usage of Monk skyrocket. This is mainly because of his level 60 skill Ward. It decreases damage taken and increases DEF level by 3. Even at level 1 you’ll see damage reduction of 40%. This combined with his heals makes him a very popular pick. He can turn almost any team tanky and sustain them single-handedly.

Paladin is one of those heroes that stay there forever. She just tanks everything, buffs the team and self-sustains with sanctuary. This combined with a blind and knockback make her a decent pick.

Mercenary is without a doubt a powerhouse. He unloads his burst skills on enemies and then resets skills to do it again. His attack speed is also increased which almost turns him into a buster sword wielding dual wielder.

Where is the meta heading?

The information gathered leads us to believe that Lightning Mage is being de-throned. We will be seeing less of him and more of Rune Rod. Rune Rod will be seen commonly to counter him as well as other mages. Not only that, but with her shield and defense down, she actually makes for a Monk counter.

We’ll also be seeing more of Monk to make sure the old burst comps can’t instant kill your whole team. Within all this we’ll still see a lot of Dual Wielders and the occasional Paladin and Mercenary.

We’ll be seeing more…

Planning for the future…

So we know what the current meta game in PvP looks like, now how do we use it to our favor? As stated above, we’ll be seeing more teams with Rune Rod and Monk. Using this information we can decide based on theory that we should avoid mages. With Rune Rod’s deflect and cocoon, our mages will likely only tickle the enemy.

In addition, we have to find a way to counter Monk’s ability to make teams unkillable. We can do this by getting a defense break – ironically Rune Rod. Also, something VERY big that will be vital in countering both of these heroes is Soothsayer. The healing from both these characters can be easily mitigated by her alone.

After we mitigate healing and added defense, we need big damage. Magic is out of the question so this leaves physical heroes. Hard hitting physical heroes include Dual Wielder, Mercenary, Spearman, Viking, Striker and Barbarian. Out of this bunch I recommend Viking, Mercenary and Dual Wielder. This is because after their intial cast, they start ramping up in momentum with their auto attacks.

Build these heroes…

The fall of Lightning Mage, the rise of Rune Rod and Monk.

The meta sees the rise in popularity of Rune Rod and Monk. This causes teams to be tanky and mages to be rendered useless. We will be seeing a shift in team compositions to account for this. Prepare to fight predominantly physical teams with either a Monk or a Rune Rod in them. To counter them we need defense break as well as healing immunity and big damage. Of course, we have to mix and match depending on the enemy team. It will be vital having a Soothsayer / Rune Rod handy to sub into your main team. As for damage I can foresee Vikings, Barbarians, Dual Wielders and Mercenaries to flood the meta.

Closing Notes

This is all speculation and of course should be taken with a grain of salt. This is my analysis of the current meta in Spiritwish and as such is open to your interpretation as well. If you disagree or have additional thoughts to add please comment and we can talk about it. Also, if you’re in NA Ukko and looking for a guild – Armada is recruiting! Our requirements are guild league, Discord and an average team level of around 55. Thanks for reading and tune in next time to see how the meta has evolved!
