Spiritwish PvP Meta Report (02/02/2020)

Written by Languor

February 3, 2020

Today we’ll be going through the top used characters in PvP and see where the meta is at right now. Please note that things can change very rapidly. What is written here could be easily outdated in the span of two weeks. This is a continuation of the “Spiritwish Meta Report” series.

Now that people have 3 characters with full legendary++ armors, the real game has begun. From this point on, we can expect to see new compositions emerge.

This report is based off of the week Jan 26 – Feb 2

Character Picks

Okay so – the view is very busy so please bear with me. This data is gathered from the PvP page and I’ve chosen to only include players from Master I to Diamond III. This chart represents what characters the top 2% of players in Spiritwish are picking.

Quick Analysis

Quickly before I begin, this chart consists of just 18 people. I am sad to say that the game is slowly dying week by week in NA Ukko. About a month and a half ago we saw about 33 people in Masters I – Diamond 3. Regardless, let’s take a look at what it takes to be at the top.

As foretold, lightning mage is no longer king. We’ve seen his usage numbers drop by an astonishing 76.5% compared to a month and a half ago. This could also be due to the drop in active players – but is ultimately thanks to Monk and Rune Rod.  Now the most common team composition to see is Monk/Rune Rod/DPS.

At the top 2%, what it takes to keep your spot is maxed techniques, proper tactics as well as good stat line rolls. If you are missing any of these you will likely be put down to top 30.

Hero picks worth noting…

Breakdown

Monk is now the new king of the hill. With his Ward damage mitigation as well as his insane ability to sustain himself and his team, he is a staple for every top PvP team. He forces enemies to use a Monk or a Rune Rod as even if his team dies, he can solo your team if you aren’t using a reliable healer.

Barbarian is an up and coming pick which boasts high skill % numbers as well as two stuns. The only downside is with her cast times which can be canceled easily. This is definitely a unit not to be slept on.

Rune Rod’s Twilight Tempo gives her team 10 seconds of healing and absorbs 30% of damage taken. Some people use her instead of Monk and depending on the situation, it may work. In my opinion, Monk is definitely better so if you had to choose one between the two then Monk should usually be your decision.

Here comes a very controversial character. Mononofu was supposed to be the one and done counter to Rune Rod and Monk, but we don’t see much use of her. This is because for one, she’s melee and squishy by nature. Although she can remove buffs such as Ward and Twilight Tempo, if your tactics target her first then she’s as good as non-existent. It is also very RNG based as you don’t know which buffs she will strip given the opponents skill timings.

Where is the meta heading?

The information gathered leads us to believe that the meta will stay like this for a good while. It has been almost two months since Monk and Rune Rod were said to be the best and put into play. Unless these heroes receive a nerf I feel we will not be seeing much variety.

Although this is true, there are also some up and coming teams that take a different approach to winning battles. I’ll show some examples below.

We could be seeing more teams like…

Getting a little creative, but these teams are proven to work at top ranks. Defender, Monk and Cleric F make use of “Power Swing” which gives team members a chance to stun the enemy if they are wielding light clubs. On the other hand, a team such as Viking, Rune Archer and Rune Rod work together set up one large critical hit. This is very difficult though as timing is crucial.

It would be refreshing to see more of these creative teams in PvP as honestly – all we see are Monks and Rune Rods.

Planning for the future…

So we know what the current meta game in PvP looks like, now how do we use it to our favor? At this point, you have limited options. It’s no longer a rock paper scissors game and now it’s a game of min maxing a team using techniques, rolls and character upgrades. You have three possible choices.

Choice one is building Monk/DPS/Rune Rod and maxing out the team completely including techniques, character upgrades and proper stat rolls. Choice two is attempt to build a team around Mononofu to try and counter the current meta. This will probably be difficult as she currently seems unreliable. Last choice is to build a completely new team completely like the ones listed above. There are things that haven’t been tested and who knows, you might be the one to invent the new meta.

If you’re new to the game – build these heroes…

The reign of Monk and Rune Rod, the disappointment of Mononofu.

The meta sees the steady reign of Monk and Rune Rod combined with a single DPS. This causes teams to be tanky and mages to be less favored picks. We not be seeing much of a shift in team compositions for a while. To gain an edge over the current meta, ensure that you max out your team. This includes techniques, proper rolled stat lines and character upgrades. It may also be worth testing and discovering new team compositions to potentially throw enemies off guard. As for Mononofu, further testing is required as she is currently seen falling short of expectations.

Closing Notes

This is my take of the current PvP meta in NA Ukko and should be taken with a grain of salt. As such, it is open to your interpretation as well. If you disagree or have additional thoughts to add please comment and we can discuss about it. Also, if you’re in NA Ukko and looking for a guild – Armada is recruiting! Our requirements are guild league, Discord and a maxed out team (70/70/70). We are currently preparing for guild wars and would love some extra fire power.

Thanks for reading and tune in next time to see how the meta has evolved!
